Research Focus
Marko’s scholarship centers on the intersection of systematic theology and early-modern philosophy, with particular attention to questions of epistemology, divine sovereignty, and human freedom. His work frequently revisits Enlightenment-era debates—especially those involving John Locke and Jonathan Edwards—to illuminate enduring theological problems.
Key themes include:
- Prolegomena and theological method
- Epistemology of religious belief
- Metaphysics of divine action and human freedom
- Soteriological controversies in historical context
- Reception and critique of Locke’s theological writings
Publications & Scholarly Impact
Across journal articles, encyclopedia entries, and monographs, Marko has produced a steady stream of research that bridges analytic precision with historical sensitivity. His 2023 monograph John Locke’s Theology: An Ecumenical, Irenic, and Controversial Project (Oxford University Press) represents a capstone study on Locke’s theological contributions. Complementary articles in leading reference works such as the Encyclopedia of Early Modern Philosophy and Sciences consolidate his reputation as a go-to scholar on early-modern Protestant thought.

Service & Community Engagement
Marko is actively involved in university governance through the Academic Council and Student Experience Council, and he contributes to accreditation work via the HLC Committee on Integrity. He also serves as an elder focusing on adult discipleship and community at a local church, regularly providing pulpit supply across West Michigan.
