Jonathan M. Adler is a Professor of Psychology at Olin College of Engineering and a Visiting Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. His work bridges narrative identity research, disability studies, and storytelling in healthcare and theater.

Adler’s research examines how personal narratives shape psychological well-being, focusing on identity development among people with disabilities, psychotherapy clients, and midlife adults. His methodologies combine qualitative psychobiographical case studies with quantitative longitudinal modeling. He is currently working on a book about identity theft and a project redefining selfhood through interdisciplinary lenses.
His publications highlight themes like redemption sequences, contamination sequences, and the role of narrative coherence in mental health. He has served as Editor of Personality and Social Psychology Review and Chief Academic Officer at Health Story Collaborative, a nonprofit elevating personal stories in healthcare.
