Dr Jonathan Li is an Education-Focused Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering at Monash University, and serves as Deputy Associate Dean Education (First Year Studies) in the Faculty of Engineering. He holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne and a dual degree in Computer Science and Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the University of Western Australia. Prior to academia, he worked in optical fiber/wireless network optimization at Telstra Research Labs and a startup.
His research focuses on educational technology (e.g., mobile/web platforms), engineering outreach programs, and diversity initiatives. Notable projects include developing the 'Online Sign Language Dictionary' to improve accessibility, the 'Catch me before I fail' early intervention framework for student academic success, and the iVERVE telehealth platform for stroke recovery support. He leads interdisciplinary collaborations across engineering education, healthcare technology, and STEM equity.
Key contributions include advancing LMS-based student workload metrics, AR visualization tools for engineering education, and strategies to increase female participation in STEM. He has supervised over 40 research outputs since 2003, focusing on pedagogical innovation and clinical technology solutions. Current projects emphasize scalable educational interventions and recovery-focused healthcare systems.
