Jonathan Knight is a Professor of Physics and Director of the Centre for Photonics and Photonic Materials at the University of Bath, UK. He also serves as Vice-President (Enterprise) within the Vice Chancellor's Office. His research focuses on photonic crystal fibers, hollow core fibers, and their applications in areas like high-power laser delivery, ultrafast optics, and gas-filled fiber technologies. He leads a high-specification fiber fabrication facility to develop synthetic optical materials with novel properties. Key projects include the U-Care initiative for ultraviolet therapies and collaborations on rubidium-vapor-filled fibers for telecommunications. Knight has supervised 13 doctoral students and holds grants from EPSRC and industry partners. His work emphasizes translating optical physics discoveries into practical applications across healthcare, engineering, and photonics.
