معرفی
Dr. Jonathan Kniss serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at the State University of New York at Fredonia since 2018. His expertise lies in developmental biology, with a focus on cell migration, organogenesis, and regenerative processes using the zebrafish model organism.
His academic journey includes:
- Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cell & Developmental Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz (2004)
- Doctor of Philosophy in Biology from the University of Oregon (2012)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research (2012-2017)
Dr. Kniss's laboratory investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the formation and regeneration of sensory organs in the zebrafish lateral line system. This research provides insights into fundamental developmental processes and has implications for regenerative medicine. His work bridges cell biology, genetics, and neuroscience to understand how complex structures form and repair.
Recognition for his scholarly contributions includes:
- Pennica Biology Faculty Research Award, Dr. Diane Pennica (2021)
As an educator, Dr. Kniss teaches foundational courses including Human Biology and Introductory Cell and Molecular Biology, alongside advanced seminars in Developmental Biology and Stem Cells. His mentorship extends to research supervision where students gain practical experience in developmental models. Office hours are structured for accessibility (Monday 3-4pm, Tuesday 1-3pm, Wednesday 11am-12pm, Friday 10-11:30am), reflecting his commitment to student engagement.
The Kniss Lab at SUNY Fredonia focuses on live imaging and molecular analysis of zebrafish development. Current projects explore cellular dynamics during lateral line organ formation and the regenerative capacity of sensory systems, providing students with training in cutting-edge developmental biology techniques.
