Jonathan Houghton is a Professor at Queen's University Belfast, affiliated with the School of Biological Sciences and the Institute for Global Food Security. His research focuses on the movement and trophic ecology of pelagic species such as sea turtles, elasmobranchs, and ocean sunfish, using techniques like satellite tracking and geospatial modeling. His work is driven by conservation policy, with projects spanning Europe, the Caribbean, South America, and the Indian Ocean. He has secured funding through initiatives like R6632GFS and R6701GFS, aiming to enhance marine conservation and monitoring. Dr. Houghton has been recognized with awards including the University of Bath Millennium Lecture Series Award and the QUB PhD Supervisory Excellence Award. He actively engages with media, appearing on BBC and Discovery Channel features. He serves on national/international committees such as MARINERS and MASTS, and has supervised 8 research works. His lab's collaborations extend across multiple countries, reflecting a global approach to marine research.
**Research Interests:** Conservation biology, animal movement ecology, pelagic species dynamics, marine protected areas management. Techniques include biologging, stable isotope analysis, and baited remote underwater video systems. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to life below water and responsible consumption.
