معرفی
Professor Jonathan Heddle is a Professor in the Department of Biosciences at Durham University, where he leads the Centre for Programmable Biological Matter established via the Leverhulme Trust International Professorship. His academic career includes roles at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, RIKEN (Japan), and Jagiellonian University (Poland). He holds a DSc (Habilitation) from the Polish Academy of Sciences, a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Leicester, and a B.Pharm (Hons) from the University of Nottingham.
Research interests focus on natural/artificial bionanomachines, including DNA gyrase mechanisms, programmable protein cages, and DNA origami-based systems. His group employs biochemical, biophysical, and structural biology techniques to design novel nanosystems for therapeutic and material applications. Notable contributions include the development of nanorobotic DNA boxes and protein-based nanotubes/cages, foundational to nCage Therapeutics, his spinout company.
Publications highlight advancements in protein cage assembly, DNA nanostructures, and biomimetic systems. Awards include the Leverhulme Trust Professorship. Current supervision includes nine PhD students exploring bionanotechnology applications.
