Professor Jonathan Hearn is a sociologist at the University of Edinburgh, specializing in political and historical sociology. He holds the title of Professor of Political and Historical Sociology in the Department of Sociology. His research focuses on theories of social power, the origins of liberal society, nationalism, and Scottish Enlightenment thought. He is the President of the Association for the Study of Ethnicity and Nationalism (ASEN), overseeing journals like Nations and Nationalism.

- Teaching: Courses include Nations and Nationalism, Theorising Nationalism, and Sociology of Freedom.
