Jonathan Hancock is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh. He holds a PhD by Research Publication on 'Ecological approaches to education and educational research: Relationality, reciprocity, and resilience' under Dr. Heidi Smith. His work focuses on qualitative methodologies in outdoor education, sustainability, and sensory/aesthetic approaches in learning spaces. He is affiliated with the Race and Inclusivity in Global Education Network (RIGEN) and Sustainability in Education Research Group (SIERG).
Education: PhD (ongoing), University of Edinburgh; professional research experience spans over a decade across Third Sector policy, Japanese teaching, and multiple research roles in Scotland. Key projects include UKRI-funded 'Feeling the Untouchable' (2024-2026), Horizon Europe's STEAM Roadmap (2023-2025), and Scottish Government Attainment Challenge initiatives (2018-2021).
Research interests emphasize ecological and post-qualitative methodologies, learning ecologies, and the role of sensory engagement in education. His publications address haptic learning, multilingualism, and educational equity. He contributes to courses like MSc Outdoor and Environmental Education, integrating praxis and technology in teaching.
