Jonathan Haas is a Music Professor of Percussion Studies and Director of the Percussion Studies Program at New York University's Steinhardt School. He is renowned as a virtuoso timpanist who has elevated the timpani to a solo instrument through performances, commissions, and recordings. His career spans classical, jazz, and experimental music, with notable collaborations including the world premiere of Philip Glass' Concerto Fantasy for Two Timpanists and Orchestra.

Research interests focus on expanding the timpani's repertoire and visibility, including commissioning over 25 works and developing innovative percussion techniques. He has performed globally with orchestras like the New York Philharmonic and orchestras in Europe and Asia.

Advising & Grants: Director of the Peabody Conservatory Percussion Studio and faculty at the Aspen Music School. Conducts percussion ensembles and presents master classes internationally.
