معرفی
Jonathan Goldberg is a Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine and part of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences. He leads research in the Biochemistry & Structural Biology department, focusing on the Structural Biology Program and the Tri-Institutional PhD Program in Chemical Biology. His work centers on molecular mechanisms of vesicle transport and compartmentation in eukaryotic cells.
- PhD in Biochemistry from Imperial College London
Goldberg’s laboratory investigates protein trafficking and quality control at the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), particularly the COPII protein machinery responsible for ER-derived vesicle synthesis. Research explores:
- Segregation of folded vs. unfolded protein cargo by COPII
- Coordination with ER quality control systems
- Cellular responses to ER proteotoxicity in Parkinson’s disease, cancer, and insulin resistance
- Structural characterization via X-ray crystallography and biochemical assays
His scientific contributions include defining the role of TANGO1/cTAGE5 receptors in COPII coat assembly and discovering how PPP motifs regulate protein-protein interactions. Key publications (2013-2017) reveal trends in
- Helical lattice formation for large cargo transport
- Competition between TANGO1 and Sec31 for Sec23 binding
- ER stress mitigation via 4-phenylbutyrate
Scientific honors include the Stephen and Barbara Friedman Chair. The lab team includes research fellows, associates, and administrative staff, with affiliations to the Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School.
