Jonathan D. Dinman

Jonathan D. Dinman is a Professor at the University of Maryland and currently serves as Director of the Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR), part of the College of Computer Mathematical and Natural Sciences. His research focuses on virology, ribosome structure-function relationships, and gene expression regulation, with significant contributions to understanding programmed ribosomal frameshifting and its implications for viral pathogenesis and human disease. Dinman holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Oberlin College (1980) and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Johns Hopkins University (1988).

His work has led to advancements in antiviral therapies targeting ribosomal frameshifting mechanisms, particularly in coronaviruses. He has also explored how ribosomal mutations contribute to cancer and neurodevelopmental disorders.
