Jonathan Brunstedt is an Associate Professor of History at Texas A&M University, specializing in modern Russian, Eastern European, and global war legacies. He holds affiliations with the College of Arts & Sciences and has been recognized as an Arts & Humanities Fellow and Visegrad Scholar. His work explores how societies remember armed conflict and reconcile idealized pasts with contemporary realities.
Education: Ph.D. in History from the University of Oxford (2011).
Research Interests: Russian/Soviet History, 20th-Century Europe, Eastern European History, and Historical Memory. His book The Soviet Myth of World War II (Cambridge, 2021) analyzes how the USSR balanced internationalism with Russian patriotism, influencing post-Soviet politics. Current projects examine Soviet victory culture's impact on Cold War interventionism and its clashes with defeats like Afghanistan.
