Cynthia Hooper is an Associate Professor at the College of the Holy Cross, serving as Program Advisor for Russian and Eastern European Studies, and affiliated with Peace and Conflict Studies. She holds fellowships at the Kennan Institute (Woodrow Wilson Center) and Harvard’s Davis Center for Russian Studies. Her research focuses on Soviet and Russian history, comparative dictatorships, and 20th-century European cultural-political dynamics.
Her notable works include "A Darker 'Big Deal'" (2006) analyzing Stalin-era party corruption and "Terror of Intimacy" (2005) exploring family politics in 1930s USSR. Her dissertation on Soviet power structures won the prestigious Fraenkel Prize. She actively contributes to academic networks through institutional collaborations and fellowships.
