Jonathan Beltz is a Teach@Tübingen Fellow affiliated with the Institute for Ancient Near Eastern Studies under the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Tübingen. He holds a PhD in Assyriology from Yale University and previously worked at the KFG MagEIA at the University of Würzburg.

His research centers on the religion and literature of ancient Mesopotamia, focusing on chthonic figures like Namtar, deities and demons, and exorcistic magical traditions. He specializes in amuletic texts and is preparing a critical edition of the "zi--pa3 incantations."
