Jonatan Klaminder is a Professor in Environmental Science at Umeå University's Department of Ecology, Environment and Geoscience, where he currently serves as Assistant Head of Department. Though presently on leave, he maintains active affiliation with the university. His academic qualifications include the Scandinavian senior research credential Docent.
Professor Klaminder's research spans several interconnected domains of environmental science:
- Arctic biogeochemistry: Investigating climate feedback mechanisms in tundra ecosystems
- Soil ecology: Specializing in earthworm impacts on soil structure and nutrient cycling
- Ecotoxicology: Examining pharmaceutical pollution effects on aquatic organisms
- Landscape evolution: Studying paleoenvironmental records and glacial processes
Analysis of Klaminder's 15 most recent publications (2017-2025) reveals three primary research arcs: (1) Arctic ecosystem responses to invasive species, particularly earthworm colonization of tundra; (2) Pharmaceutical pollutant fate and behavioral impacts on fish; and (3) Millennial-scale biogeochemical processes in boreal and arctic soils. His work increasingly incorporates interdisciplinary approaches combining geochemistry, ecology, and climate science.
Professor Klaminder leads or participates in several major research initiatives including:
- 'Subtle behavioral responses to soil pollutants' (2022-2025)
- 'Downstream salmon migration in regulated rivers' (2017-2021)
- 'Climate change induced regime shifts in Northern lake ecosystems' (2017-2022)
