Jonah Rimer is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at The University of Queensland and Convenor of the Cyber Criminology field of study for UQ's postgraduate Cyber Security programs. He holds a DPhil in Anthropology from the University of Oxford and has affiliations with the Young Lives Research Lab (Canada) and the Centre for Digital Cultures & Societies. His research focuses on cybercrime, online sexual offending, child abuse, and digital media impacts, with a particular emphasis on human factors and social elements of cybercrime.
Education: DPhil in Anthropology (University of Oxford), MPhil in Medical Anthropology (Oxford), BA (Hons) in Anthropology and Sociology (University of Guelph). Funding includes support from SSHRC Canada, Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, and the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children Australia.
Research Interests: Cybercrime prevention strategies, online child sexual exploitation material (CSAM), digital ethnography, policy-justice system intersections, and qualitative methods. Collaborates with law enforcement agencies (e.g., Queensland Police Service) and NGOs globally.
