Professor Jon Silverman is a Research Professor of Media & Criminal Justice at the University of Bedfordshire's School of Arts and Creative Industries. Previously a BBC journalist specializing in Home/Legal Affairs, he transitioned to academia after winning the Sony Radio Journalist of the Year (1996) for his war crimes investigations coverage. His research focuses on media’s role in post-conflict justice mechanisms in Africa, international criminal tribunals, and transitional governance frameworks. Silverman holds a BA (Upper-second) from the University of Cambridge and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
He has authored books like Crime, Policy & the Media (2012) and contributed to academic journals analyzing ICC-Africa relations, diaspora communication dynamics, and media impacts on post-conflict democracies. His work bridges journalism practices with legal accountability, emphasizing media’s dual role in conflict mitigation and justice advocacy. He actively participates in initiatives like the East Midlands Board of Remembering Srebrenica, applying academic insights to real-world reconciliation efforts.
