Jon Odorico is Professor of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, specializing in pancreatic/islet transplantation and stem cell biology. He directs a research laboratory focused on differentiating insulin-producing cells from stem cells for diabetes treatment.
Education includes B.S. from Duke University (1983) and M.D. from New York University (1987), with surgical residency at University of Pennsylvania and transplant fellowship at UW–Madison.
Research encompasses:
- Stem cell differentiation into pancreatic islet cells
- Extracellular matrix influences on cell development
- Immunomodulation strategies for transplanted cells
- Pancreas transplantation outcomes research
Recent publications demonstrate advanced work in CRISPR screening for pancreatic development, human pancreatic ECM hydrogels, and proteomic analysis of pancreas maturation. His laboratory develops innovative biomaterials to support stem cell-derived islet function.
Dr. Odorico has received numerous honors including election to the American Surgical Association and recognition as a Fellow of the American Society of Transplantation. He mentors graduate students and undergraduate researchers through the Cell and Molecular Biology Program.
