Jon Mortimer

Mr. Jon Mortimer is a Senior Lecturer in Interior Architecture and Design at Middlesex University's School of Design, part of the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries. He serves as Programme Leader for the BA Interior Design programme and Module/Year Leader. With over 30 years of professional and academic experience, his work spans hotel, spa, retail, and residential design, alongside innovative use of AI-driven visualization tools. He actively bridges traditional hand drawing techniques (urban sketching, life drawing, linocut illustration) with digital technologies.

His research focuses on Architectural Visualization, AI Image Generation, and Graphical Representation for Social Change, particularly in creating imagery that highlights social injustices. Notable outputs include collaborative projects published in InteriorsMDX (2016). He has also authored illustrated short stories about Kent village mythology through linocut art.

Teaching emphasizes evolving visualization methods from hand drafting to AI tools, guiding students in self-representational discovery. His expertise combines practical design experience with pedagogical innovation in contemporary design education.
