Jon Helt Haarder is an Associate Professor at the Department of Culture and Language, University of Southern Denmark. His research focuses on Nordic literary studies, with specializations in contemporary Danish literature, masculinity studies, and the literary history of concrete housing estates ('betonblokke'). He leads the 'Reassembling the Ghetto' project and co-authored Blokland: The Literary History of Concrete Blocks (2024). His work explores themes like urban-rural divides, performative biographism, and Henrik Pontoppidan's legacy.
Education: PhD in Danish Literature (2001) from the University of Southern Denmark. Key awards include the Honary Research Associate title (2016) and a residency at San Cataldo (2012).
Research interests include modernism, deconstruction, and the social dimensions of literature. He has published over 260 works, including monographs and peer-reviewed articles on topics ranging from queer readings of classic texts to analyses of Danish 'ghetto literature.' Current projects investigate rural-urban relations in Nordic literature.
Teaching includes courses on Nordic literary periods and research methods. Collaborations span European academic institutions, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to literature's societal roles.
