He has published extensively on 16th–19th century Scandinavian texts, emphasizing their cultural, religious, and linguistic contexts.
Haarberg’s scholarship bridges historical and theoretical approaches, examining topics like the Norwegian literary canon, devotional literature, and the evolution of academic disciplines. His work on Arne Garborg and A.O. Vinje highlights Norway’s literary heritage while engaging with broader European intellectual movements.
Though retired, he remains active in editing, textual analysis, and mentoring younger scholars. His research underscores the importance of philological rigor and interdisciplinary methods in understanding Norway’s literary past.
