Jon Dobson is the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida, leading the Dobson Lab. His research focuses on magnetic micro- and nanoparticles for biomedical applications, including targeted therapies, gene delivery, and neurodegenerative disease imaging. He holds a B.Sc. (1982) and M.Sc. (1986) from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. (1991) from ETH Zurich.
Research interests span nanomagnetic actuation for cell engineering, magnetic nanoparticle-based gene transfection, and imaging techniques for Alzheimer’s/Parkinson’s. He has pioneered technologies for cancer therapy, regenerative medicine, and iron compound quantification in neurological tissues.
Notable awards include Fellowships from the National Academy of Inventors (2020), AAAS (2015), and AIMBE (2015). His work has been published in over 200 peer-reviewed articles, with grants supporting multi-national collaborations.
Advising focuses on training students in nanomedicine and biomedical engineering. The Dobson Lab collaborates globally, advancing translational research from bench to clinical applications.
