Wesley E. Bolch is a Distinguished Professor and UF Term Professor in the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida's Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering. His work focuses on developing computational tools for radiation dose assessment in medical imaging and therapy.
Education:
- B.S., Environmental Engineering, University of Florida, 1984
- M.S., Radiological Health Physics, University of Florida, 1986
- Ph.D., Radiological Health Physics, University of Florida, 1988
Research interests include radiation dosimetry, medical physics, and pediatric radiation exposure modeling. His laboratory has created a 350-member library of anatomical models used in interventional fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine, and computed tomography. Applications span secondary cancer risk assessment in proton/photon therapy and age-related macular degeneration treatment.
Awards:
- Herbert Wertheim College Teacher/Scholar of the Year (2022-2023)
- UF Term Professorship (2021–2024)
- Fellowships: AIMBE (2020), AAPM (2012), HPS (2012)
The Bolch Laboratory develops tools for radiologists and oncologists to improve patient safety in imaging/therapy. Collaborations involve clinical translation of computational models for dose estimation.
