Dr. Jon A. Thompson is a Professor of Music at Trinity Western University (TWU), affiliated with the School of the Arts, Media + Culture. With a DMA in Choral Conducting from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and over 25 years of university teaching experience, he specializes in Scandinavian, British, and Renaissance choral music. His research focuses on composers like Edvard Grieg, Jean Sibelius, and Ralph Vaughan Williams, alongside 15th-16th century polyphonic notation.

His research interests include analyzing choral works within their historical and cultural contexts, particularly nationalist movements in music. Dr. Thompson has contributed extensively to The Choral Journal through reviews and feature articles, including a seminal piece on Sibelius’s choral oeuvre. He also edits the Verge Journal, an online publication of his school.
As a conductor, he has led performances with the Vancouver Bach Choir and Simon Fraser University choirs, including collaborations with Sir Simon Rattle. He teaches courses ranging from music fundamentals to advanced conducting, and mentors students pursuing careers in music education and performance.
