John Zobel is an Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, affiliated with the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences and the Department of Natural Resources Science and Management.

His research focuses on forest and natural resource biometrics, encompassing:
- Quantification and projection of forest/wildlife habitat characteristics
- Adaptation of statistical models to new variables and constraints
- Compilation of large-scale natural resource inventory databases
- Application of Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) data to resource questions
- Development of software for rapid implementation of research findings
- Cross-disciplinary statistical support for environmental scientists
He teaches courses in Field Resource Survey, Field Remote Sensing, Advanced Topics in Assessment and Modeling of Forests, and Statistical Methods for Environmental Scientists and Managers, emphasizing practical survey and modeling techniques for natural resource analysis.
