John Wooders is a Professor of Economics at NYU Abu Dhabi (since 2016) and a Global Network Professor at NYU. He serves as Co-Director of the Center for Behavioral Institutional Design and directs the Social Science Experimental Laboratory. His research focuses on strategic behavior in games and markets, auction theory, and R&D spillovers. A Fellow of the Econometric Society and Economic Theory Fellow, Wooders has contributed groundbreaking studies on topics like tennis players' adherence to game theory principles and the role of reputation in auctions.
Previously, he led the establishment of a PhD program at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), which ranked second in Australia’s 2011 ERA. His work bridges theoretical economics with empirical analysis, often using experimental and field data. Notable collaborations include studies with Mark Walker on tennis strategy and Dan Houser on auction dynamics.
