Dr. John Wolfe Ackerman is an Assistant Professor in Politics and International Relations and Programme Director for the MSc in Digital Politics and Sustainable Development at Northeastern University London. His research focuses on contemporary political theory, history of political and legal thought, and urban politics. He holds a PhD in Political Science from Northwestern University, an MA in International Relations from the University of Chicago, and a BA in Art History from Williams College.
His work explores everyday political practices, urban dynamics, and the intellectual legacy of Hannah Arendt within German-Jewish contexts. He has held fellowships from institutions including the Katz Center, DFG, and DAAD. Dr. Ackerman teaches courses such as Decolonising International Relations, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Research Methods at the postgraduate level. Previously, he taught at the University of Kent, TU Dresden, and Northwestern University.
He leads urban studies initiatives and integrates global and local perspectives in his scholarship. His teaching spans topics from political ideologies to the Anthropocene and digital global politics.
