John Wilburn is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine, with a part-time appointment since 2014. He serves as the Assistant Residency Director at Sinai Grace Hospital (SGH) and works as an Attending Physician at Detroit Medical Center since 2013.
- Education: M.D. from Ross University School of Medicine (2010) and B.S. in Biopsychology & Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Michigan (2005).
- Completed Emergency Medicine Residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital (2010) and served as Chief Resident (2012-2013).
His research focuses on resuscitation science, emphasizing real-time monitoring of CPR quality using end-tidal CO2 and cerebral oximetry to predict return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in cardiac arrest patients. He has contributed to multiple studies published in Annals of Emergency Medicine and presented at the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Research Forum (2012).
Recent publications highlight his work in integrating non-invasive neurological monitoring into advanced life support protocols, bridging clinical practice and translational research. He also contributes to medical education, teaching ACLS, BLS, and procedural skills to medical students and residents.
