John Troyer is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social & Policy Sciences at the University of Bath, directing its Centre for Death and Society. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota (2006) and has held visiting roles at Ohio State University. His research focuses on corpse technologies, mortality protocols, global tissue trade, and death aesthetics. Troyer leads projects like the Future Cemetery initiative and contributes to UN SDG goals through pandemic mortality studies. He has received awards for teaching excellence and research impact, including the 2006 Best Dissertation Award and 2018 Alumnus Achievement recognition.
His work spans book reviews (e.g., Technologies of the Human Corpse), pandemic analysis (On Pandemics Being Productive), and corpse ethics investigations. Current projects include exploring "Tiredness Of Life" in aging populations and social media's role in death rituals.
