معرفی
Prof. John Timm is a University Professor (W3) of Mineralogy and Petrology at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, and currently serves as Dean of the Department of Earth Sciences. He previously held roles including Vice Chair of DVGeo (2019–2021) and Managing Director of the Institute of Geological Sciences (2019–2021). His research focuses on fluid-rock interactions in subduction zones, urban mining of critical raw materials, and planetary processes, with expertise in halogen cycling and metamorphic dynamics.
Education:
- Habilitation in Geology/Mineralogy, Universität Münster (2012)
- PhD in Mineralogy, Kiel University (2001)
- Diploma in Geology, University of Bremen & RWTH Aachen (1998)
Research Interests: His work integrates field studies, experimental simulations, and numerical modeling to explore fluid dynamics in subduction zones, including sulfur and halogen mobilization, urban mining of e-waste, and early solar system geochemistry. Key projects involve reactive fluid flow in serpentinites, subduction-induced metamorphism, and planetary volatile cycles.
Grants & Labs: Active grants include DFG-funded projects on fluorine-specific interactions and subduction dynamics. He hosts the Mineralogy-Petrology Working Group and collaborates with institutions like the Hasenstab-Riedel group on urban mining. His lab specializes in advanced geochemical analysis and geophysical modeling.
Awards: Recipient of the WSS 100 research award from the Werner Siemens Foundation.
