John Tesh is a visiting senior fellow at King's College London Department of War Studies, an associate fellow at RUSI, and a freelance consultant to the OECD and others. His expertise centers on emergency/disaster risk management, national resilience building, and strategic risk assessment within governmental and international contexts.
His research focuses on Risk Assessment, National Resilience, and Disaster Risk Reduction, with pioneering contributions to the UK's National Risk Assessment framework. He developed internationally recognized methodologies for risk communication through the National Risk Register and significantly advanced infrastructure resilience, national security risk assessment, and climate change adaptation strategies.
John Tesh has been honored with the following scientific award:
- CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2013 New Year’s Honours list for services to civil resilience and the development of the National Risk Assessment.
Tesh directed the National Resilience Capabilities Programme at the UK Cabinet Office (2006-2012), managing over 20 government-wide projects to enhance national resilience capabilities. His leadership extended to designing the national infrastructure resilience programme and developing contingency plans for high-impact disaster risks.
He spearheaded critical national initiatives including the Safety and Security Strategic Risk Assessments for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the UK's inaugural Climate Change Risk Assessment published in 2012, establishing frameworks adopted internationally.
