His research focuses on cultural wisdom transmission in Greek literature, breakdown of discourse in late 5th-century BCE texts, and failure in performance (e.g., Pindar’s self-corrections). Current projects include Plato’s Proverbs (exploring proverbs in Plato’s Republic) and a study on literary failure in ancient performance. He integrates world literature with classical texts to foster cross-temporal dialogue.
John’s work bridges ancient and modern literary analysis, emphasizing rhetorical commonplaces and their societal roles. His teaching philosophy emphasizes interdisciplinary connections between classical and global literary traditions.
