John Taylor is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of War Studies within the School of Security Studies, King’s College London. He contributes to Master’s courses in Intelligence and Security, leveraging his extensive experience in handling human sources of secret intelligence.

His research focuses on the Psychology of collecting human intelligence, Causes of betrayal and insider threats, and Assessment tradecraft. Notably, he collaborated with psychologists from University College London to design tools for identifying insider threats and is a certified practitioner of Hogan’s psychometric tests.
John is the co-author of two seminal works: The Psychology of Spies and Spying (2022) and The Dark Side of Behaviour at Work (2004), which explore themes such as trust, treason, workplace deception, and personality assessment.
