John T. Koh is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Delaware, which is part of the College of Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on designing and synthesizing novel molecules for biomedical applications, particularly in the treatment of cancer and genetic diseases.
Dr. Koh's research interests include:
- Molecular rescue of genetic mutations, particularly in nuclear and steroid hormone receptors
- Ligand-receptor engineering for selective gene expression control
- Spatiotemporal control of gene expression using photo-responsive hormone analogs
- Development of novel therapeutic approaches for cancer and genetic diseases
His research program combines computer-aided molecular design, organic synthesis, and techniques from molecular and cell biology to create innovative solutions for biomedical problems. Dr. Koh's work has particular relevance for conditions such as rickets, resistance to thyroid hormone (RTH), Cushing's disease, diabetes, and various cancers.
Dr. Koh has received recognition including an American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellowship. His innovative research has led to the development of molecules capable of restoring function to mutant proteins associated with human genetic diseases, representing pioneering work in the field.
As leader of the Koh Research Group, he mentors students and collaborators in cutting-edge research at the intersection of chemistry, biology, and medicine. His work has potential applications in gene therapy and the development of novel therapeutic approaches for challenging medical conditions.
