He holds the Canada Research Chair in Environmental Change and is Co-Director of the Paleoecological Environmental Assessment and Research Laboratory. His research focuses on paleolimnology, studying how ecosystems respond to natural and human-induced environmental changes, including climate change, pollution, and acid rain legacies. He has published widely on Arctic/alpine ecosystems, lake sediment records, and the ecological impacts of environmental stressors.
