معرفی
Dr John-Sebastian Eden is a Senior Research Fellow in Bioinformatics and Genomics at the University of Sydney, affiliated with the Westmead Institute for Medical Research and Sydney Medical School. His work focuses on viral evolution, pathogen discovery, and genomic epidemiology. He joined the University in 2013 with an NHMRC Early Career Fellowship, specializing in viral genome sequencing and bioinformatics methods. Current research includes respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) evolution, metatranscriptomics for pathogen discovery, and HIV reservoir dynamics.
- Key affiliations:
- Westmead Institute for Medical Research
- Charles Perkins Centre
- Marie Bashir Institute for Infectious Diseases
Research interests span viral emergence mechanisms, zoonotic diseases, and clinical metagenomics. Notable projects include:
- Evolutionary dynamics of RSV in Australia
- Genomic surveillance of Hendra virus in bats
- Unbiased pathogen discovery in complex infections
Publications emphasize viral epidemiology, with recent work on Japanese encephalitis emergence, SARS-CoV-2 transmission analysis, and Hendra virus variants. Awards include the NHMRC Peter Doherty Fellowship (2014-2018). Current HDR students investigate viral-host interactions in immunocompromised patients and wildlife pathogen discovery.
Labs/teams: Part of the Centre for Virus Research and leads the Bioinformatics and Pathogen Genomics group. Collaborates with global networks for genomic epidemiology.
