John S. W. Park is a Professor of Asian American Studies and affiliated faculty in Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). He holds a Ph.D. in Jurisprudence and Social Policy from UC Berkeley, an M.P.P. from Harvard's Kennedy School, and a B.A. in Rhetoric from UC Berkeley. His research focuses on immigration law, race theory, and political theory. He has authored multiple books, including *Elusive Citizenship* (2004), *Illegal Migrations and the Huckleberry Finn Problem* (2013), and *Immigration Law and Society* (2018). His work bridges legal scholarship, public policy, and ethnic studies.
Prof. Park served as Chair of the Department of Asian American Studies (2013–2016), Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the College of Letters and Science (2007–2011), and Associate Director of the UC Center for New Racial Studies (2011–present). He has taught courses on Asian American legal history, colonialism, and immigration law, and has been a visiting scholar at Yonsei University and Berkeley Law. His awards include the 2011 Margaret T. Getman Service to Students Award and the Mellon Sawyer Seminar Award (2021–2022).
Prof. Park’s publications span interdisciplinary topics in law, race, and migration. His books and articles critically engage with U.S. immigration policies, racial formations, and legal frameworks. He actively advises students and serves as President of the UCSB Phi Beta Kappa chapter.
