Benjamin Zulueta

Benjamin Zulueta is a Continuing Lecturer in the Department of Asian American Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). He holds a Ph.D. in Asian American History and History of Science from UCSB, following a B.A. in History from UC Berkeley.

His research focuses on the historical origins of the 'model minority' narrative, particularly examining Cold War-era managed migrations of Chinese refugees and their assimilation through science and technology. This work is reflected in his forthcoming book, Forging the Model Minority: Chinese Immigrants, American Science, and the Cold War, under contract with the University of Hawai’i Press.

Dr. Zulueta has taught at multiple institutions, including California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; the University of Southern California; and California State University, Channel Islands, offering courses in US/World History, Asian American Studies, and the History of Science. At UCSB, he teaches courses such as Filipin@ Americans (100CC), Southeast Asian Americans (100HH), and Science, Technology, and Asian America (133).
