John S. Giuliano, Jr., MD, is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Section of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. He holds roles as Director of the Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Program, Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and Medical Director of the Pediatric Transport Program. His clinical expertise lies in managing critically ill children, particularly those requiring advanced airway management and interfacility transport.
Giuliano completed his medical degree at George Washington University (2002), pediatric residency at Children's National Medical Center (2005), and pediatric critical care fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (2008). He is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
His research focuses on improving pediatric critical care outcomes, including studying inflammatory responses to severe viral infections (influenza, SARS-CoV-2), tracheal intubation safety, and training methodologies. Notable contributions include work on ang-2 biomarkers in septic shock, MIS-C pathophysiology, and video laryngoscopy-assisted coaching to reduce intubation complications.
Giuliano has received the Howard A. Pearson Faculty Teaching Award (2012) and FCCM Fellowship (2020). He actively collaborates on national registries (NEAR4KIDS, PALISI) and chairs committees for trauma quality improvement and transport medicine. His educational initiatives aim to enhance procedural safety and interdisciplinary training in critical care settings.
