John Rubins is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Department of English. He teaches creative writing courses including CW 100 Introduction to Creative Writing, CW 104 Introduction to Narrative Writing, and CW 404 Advanced Narrative Writing. His academic focus spans fiction writing, narrative techniques, and world-building for writers.
- BA from Washington University (magna cum laude)
- MFA from Emerson College
His creative work has appeared in The Southeast Review, Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet, Elimae, and Surgery of Modern Warfare. He founded the early web journal Tatlin's Tower and has served on editorial staffs of Ploughshares and New England Review. Rubins has received multiple teaching awards from both the Department of English and the broader College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
