John Raymond serves as Associate Professor of Music in Jazz Studies: Trumpet at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. A Grammy-nominated trumpeter, he is celebrated for expanding jazz boundaries by integrating indie rock, folk, and electronic influences, earning acclaim from The New York Times, NPR, and DownBeat.
His artistic research focuses on contemporary jazz performance, trumpet technique, and cross-genre composition. Raymond has released nine solo albums and four with his trio Real Feels, reimagining works by artists such as Bob Dylan and Thom Yorke while blending lush pop and atmospheric electronics. His book The Jazz Trumpet Routine (2020) has sold over 900 copies, establishing new pedagogical approaches for creative improvisation.
