Jon Irabagon

Jon Irabagon serves as Adjunct Lecturer in Jazz Saxophone at the University of Illinois at Chicago's School of Theatre and Music. He teaches MUS 114: Jazz History, MUS 152: Chamber Ensemble, and MUS 180: Private Lessons. Irabagon holds an Artist Diploma from The Juilliard School and a Master's from Manhattan School of Music.

His research encompasses jazz innovation, experimental composition, and saxophone technique. As a performer, he leads multiple ensembles including a trio with Mark Helias/Barry Altschul and the prog-metal inspired 'I Don't Hear Nothin' but the Blues'. His quintet Outright! received Downbeat Magazine's 5-Star Masterpiece review for 'Unhinged'.

Performance credits include Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (Wynton Marsalis), Village Vanguard Orchestra, and collaborations with Dave Douglas, Mary Halvorson, and Barry Altschul. Commercial recordings span over 20 albums as leader/sideman.
