Dr. John Ratcliffe is a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds' School of Healthcare, focusing on loneliness and social isolation, particularly in men and older adults. He leads the MEND study to attract male care workers and contributes to NICHE-Leeds, advancing social care innovation. Previously, he worked at King's College London on DELONELINESS, a smart monitoring system for loneliness in older adults, and at Sheffield Hallam University on sport-related community projects.
Education: PhD in Health Sciences (University of York, 2022), MA Social Research (University of Sheffield), BA Sociology (University of Sheffield).
Research Interests: Mixed-methods studies on men's mental health, loneliness interventions, and policy development. His work challenges traditional loneliness definitions and emphasizes gendered experiences. At Leeds, he bridges academic research with practical solutions for social isolation.
