John Pitts

John Pitts is the Vauxhall Professor of Socio-Legal Studies and Director of the Vauxhall Centre for the Study of Crime at the University of Bedfordshire. He also holds visiting professorships in Criminology at the Universities of Suffolk and Kent, and in Youth Justice at the University of Politics and Law, Shanghai. His career spans roles in publishing, education, youth work, and consultancy on youth crime and justice systems globally. Pitts has authored influential works like Reluctant Gangsters (2008) and contributed to national initiatives on youth gangs, including advising the UK government's Gang Summit in 2011. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters (2011) for his contributions to youth justice research.
