Nicola Coleman is a Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire, affiliated with the School of Law and Education. She specializes in youth criminology, media and crime, and green criminology. As a module leader, she teaches youth justice and media-related modules, including the core 'Understanding Crime Through Media' and an optional youth justice module. Her research focuses on young offenders' conceptualizations of family, children's voices in policy, and the impact of media on crime.
Education: PhD in Criminology (2016–2021, Middlesex University), MSc Criminology with Forensic Psychology (2011–2013, Middlesex University), BA Criminology and Applied Psychology (2008–2011, University of Brighton).
Her research interests include youth justice policy, children's lived experiences in the justice system, and the role of media. She has developed a new module on green criminology. Recent work explores family dynamics among young offenders and the importance of children's perspectives in policy-making.
Publications span topics like family conceptualization in youth offending, policy reforms, and legal frameworks influencing family structures. She has supervised multiple Level 6 dissertations in youth justice and crime. Affiliated with the Centre for Future Societies Research, her work bridges academic research and practical policy implications.
