Professor John Phillimore is a prominent academic and public policy expert at Curtin University, serving as Executive Director of the John Curtin Institute of Public Policy (JCIPP) since 2007. He holds concurrent roles at the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE), Future of Work Institute (FOWI), and Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre (BCEC). With a BA from UWA, first-class honours from Oxford, and a DPhil from Sussex, his career spans academia and government, including senior roles as Chief of Staff to WA ministers and Director of Intergovernmental Relations.
His research focuses on Australian public policy, political economy, federalism, health regulation, and electoral reform. Notable areas include intergovernmental fiscal relations, WA political dynamics, and the impact of education policies. He frequently engages with media on political analysis and has authored influential works on federal democracy and electoral systems.
