Dr. John Pearce is Reader in Archaeology at King's College London's Department of Classics. His research focuses on Roman archaeology, particularly funerary practices, Roman Britain, frontier societies, and material culture studies. He co-directed survey projects in Italy's Marche region and collaborates with the Portable Antiquities Scheme to document Roman finds.
Pearce's recent publications analyze evidence of amphitheatre spectacles in Roman Britain, including gladiatorial combat and executions. He has advised museums on exhibitions such as 'Roman Dead: piecing together burials and beliefs in Roman London' and co-developed the Vindolanda tablets website for public engagement. A Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, Pearce contributes to archaeological dissemination through academic and public channels.
