John Paul Green is the Faculty Academic Support Lead at the School of Media and Creative Industries, University of Sunderland. He holds a BA (Hons) in Media Studies and an MA in Film and Cultural Studies from the same university. His academic roles include former positions as Associate Head of School for Film and Media, Principal Lecturer for Quality Assurance and Enhancement, and member of various university committees (e.g., Quality Management Sub-Committee, Athena Swan). He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and currently chairs the Student Voice Feedback Forum.
His research focuses on science fiction/horror media, media history, and student retention. Notable topics include British fictional heroes (James Bond, Doctor Who), Jack the Ripper commodification, and media's role in national identity. He has contributed to BBC programs like Arena and Doctor Who, and been featured in media interviews.
Teaching includes undergraduate modules on science fiction television, media histories, and cult cinema, as well as postgraduate courses in media and popular culture. He has served as an external examiner for De Montfort University and the University of Bedfordshire.
