Laura Mee is a Senior Lecturer in Film and Television at the University of Hertfordshire's School of Creative Arts. She leads the Media Research Group and serves as Research Admissions Tutor. Her academic background includes a PhD from De Montfort University (2014) focused on horror film remakes, and an MA in Film (2010).
Her research interests span horror media, adaptation studies, seriality, and analogue aesthetics in contemporary horror. She has authored monographs like The Shining (2017) and Reanimated: The Contemporary American Horror Film Remake (2022). Mee co-founded BAFTSS's Horror Studies Special Interest Group and co-edits the Hidden Horror Histories series with Liverpool University Press.
Her publications analyze horror cinema's cultural legacy, including topics like video aesthetics, feminist filmmaking, and transmedia storytelling. Mee's work bridges academic critique with industry trends, emphasizing the intersection of nostalgia, technology, and genre evolution.
Her teaching spans BA and MA programs in film and television, focusing on genre studies, adaptation, and cult cinema. She actively supervises doctoral students and contributes to both scholarly and creative discourse in horror studies.
